Jesus said to him: “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” John 14:6

Let’s get down to business!
GUYS! We need to wake up and realize that we are slowly slipping (maybe even already immersed) into relativity! And I’m not talking about Albert Einstein’s, ‘Theory of Relativity’, or as Wikipedia puts it: the theory of the structure of space and time. I’m talking about the monster that Pope Benedict XVI spoke about at the World Youth Day: MORAL RELATIVISM! It’s a big word, but what does that mean? I’m glad you asked. It boils down to truth. Now there are essentially two types of truths: 1. Objective Truth and 2. Subjective Truth.
OBJECTIVE TRUTH: One truth that is the same for all people. For example: going 75 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone is speeding. Doesn’t really matter if you knew it or not, the officer is well within his or her rights to pull you over and give you a ticket.
“It might be true for you but not for me.”
SUBJECTIVE TRUTH: One truth that isn’t the same for all people. For example: if you go to the beach without sunscreen, you will get burnt. Now that might be true for some people but for people with darker complexions that might not be true.
Tell me if you have heard this before: “It might be true for you but not for me.” If you haven’t, just go ahead and have a discussion with most millennials about faith and reason. (I’m a millennial so I can pick on my own generation.) I would agree with this notion if we are arguing who is better Michael Jordan or Lebron James (you’re wrong if you say Lebron). So if we come to an impasse, we can resolve to say we will agree to disagree or that is your truth but not my truth (because I grew up during the Jordan era and thus he is the G.O.A.T.).
What is the big deal about relativism? Who gives a rip? Why should I care about what your truth is? Well in all honesty, YOU should! Let me throw out a couple of topics that might help my point better.
1. Sin, crime or subjects of morality
2. Abortion
3. Contraception
4. Death Penalty
5. Doctrines of the Church
I won’t exhaust you by going into all of those but let’s talk about some. What’s the big deal about sin, crime or subjects of morality? Well some people struggle with the fact that they are sinners so instead of changing themselves they change what sin is to them. Like taking the Lords name in vain. One might say, “Well I’m not really swearing at God so it’s ok. It’s not a sin.” Notice how this person changed the commandment to fit their truth? Don’t be like this person. This person should probably go to confession.
With the bigger picture in mind, truth should be truth no matter what. Abortion is wrong. Ending a life of an innocent child of God, is wrong. Point. Blank. Period. The “Pro-Choice” or as I like to call them “Pro-death” advocates will be quick to point out instances that would warrant an abortion to be acceptable like: a pregnancy due to incest or rape, the life of the mother would be in danger, or it’s the mothers body and she should have the choice. We could argue that the abortion is wrong with them but this is where the moral relativity kicks in to say “That’s your truth not mine.” Or “You say that’s a life but I say that’s just an embryo.”
Now let me be clear, the Church has always said and will always say that abortion is wrong. The great St. John Paul II declared that the Church’s teaching on abortion is “unchanged and unchangeable”. “Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. God the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.” (CCC #2271)
“Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote. Wrong is wrong, even if everybody is wrong. Right is right, even if nobody is right.” – Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
At one time in the world, all Christians believed the same as what the Holy Church teaches, but moral relativism reared its ugly head and now even on this truly insidious topic, we are divided. So ask me again why we need to worry about moral relativism? How long before someone fights for the right to kill their neighbor because they are infringing upon their “truth”? How long are we going to stay in the shadows of this spiritual warfare?
Come, Holy Spirit.
Boys, it’s time to be real MEN of the Faith.

Great perspective and wisdom! I’m excited to read your next post keep shining your light!
